Femi Kuti - The Definitive Collection

(Wrasse Records/ WRASS 186)

Femi Kuti - The Definitive Collection

This is the latest compilation of Femi Kuti's music to prove that he really is 'the son of a lion'. The songs range from those from his debut album to his more experimental collaborations in recent years. This is one of those albums that everyone has a favourite. Although there is truly some fine fine music here, my favourite has to be 'Water No Get Enemy', a remix of a Fela Kuti track featuring Femi Kuti, D'Angelo and Macy Gray. The track comes from the 'Red Hot and Riot' album (2002) and shows the imaginative ways in which Femi Kuti uses his personal heritage to bring something unique to world music. If not, then try 'Beng Beng' or the moving '97', a touching tribute of the year the great Fela Kuti passed away.
