Various Artists - The Rough Guide to the Music of Tanzania

(World Music Network/ RGENT1158CD)

The Rough Guide to the Music of Tanzania

Unlike countries such as Congo, South Africa, Mali, Senegal and Nigeria there haven't been too many compilations highlighting the music of Tanzania so this CD will be a welcome addition to your African music collection. It focuses more on the traditional music and there are so many undiscovered gems to be found.

Featured on the CD are Tanzanian dance bands, such as Muziki Wa Dansi and Vijana Jazz Band, Taarab acts, such as Ikhwani Safaa Musical Club and Mohammed Issa Matona, from the coastal areas and from Zanzibar, as well as X Plastaz who represent bongo flava, the local hip-hop and are the voice of the youth.
