Tinariwen - Aman Iman (Water Is Life)

(Independiente / B000MCIBFW)

Since Tinariwen emerged from their homeland in the southern Saharan desert back in 2001, they have achieved the kind of success that only a few African acts have equalled. They have sold over 80,000 copies of their last two albums, 'The Radio Tisdas Sessions' and 'Amassakoul'. They have toured the globe, including headlining the African Soul Rebels 2005 tour, shared the stage with Robert Plant, Carlos Santana, Taj Mahal and others. They even have had tea with Yve Ngoo!

'Aman Iman' is their third release and is likely to be the vehicle that drives them straight to stratospheric stardom. As usual, the music is a rootsy blend of the old, the new, the rock and the roll, all wrapped up in their unique blanket of desert blues. If you like bluegrass, electric blues, Arabic-tinged psychedelic crunking and cranking, folky guitar led beats sung by a sandy/muddy voiced orator Ibrahim Ag Alhabib, backed by harmonious female call and responses – you'll just love this!

"This is SENSATIONAL! The album of 2007. There are plenty of bands who know how to rock, but very few who know how to roll. Tinariwen are the masters of roll’n’roll." - Andy Kershaw, BBC Radio 3.
