K'naan, 'the dusty foot philosopher' is leading the pack of Somali rap artists. His lyrics are in English and he samples tracks by Tracy Chapman, Sade and Peter Tosh. Yet he is deeply connected to the traditions of Somalia 'the nation of poets'. His track 'Until the Lion Learns to Speak' is a homage to the style of the great Somali poet Ares Isse.
