Sally Nyolo and the Original Bands of Yaoundé - Studio Cameroon

(Riverboat Records/ TUGCD1043)

Sally Nyolo and the Original Bands of Yaoundé Studio Cameroon

Here's a treat for fans of those who seek out the rootsy, raw, folksy core of afro-funk. Sally has returned to Cameroon, her homeland in search of fresh talent, ripe for development from the local music scene. And what a find! The array of jaunty beats, repetitive lyrics and pure unfettered joy jumps out in every track. One of my favourite being The Bidjoi Sisters' 'Chantal' that I can only describe as dirt-track funk, sung in a most child-like naïve, cheeky round. You'll want to play it on loop! Another real stand-out track is Roger Ngono Ayissi's 'Nomo Nga' whose joyful praise is a more mature moment altogether. Sally has dug deep to bring together a comely collection, showcasing an array of Cameroonian talent.
