Various Artists - North African Groove

(Putumayo World Music/ PUT 237-2)

Various Artists North African Groove

Apart from Egypt's Amr Diab, the biggest names on this compilation are the Algerians: Khaled, Cheb Mami & Faudel and Morocco's Samira Saeid, but you'll also find artists from Tunisia, Libya, and interesting fusions like Eastenders feat. Shady Sheha. Opening track 'Montuno Noreño' by Jomed, a Cuban-Algerian band, shows the beautiful, and now popular, connections between Arabic and Latin sounds. A great introduction to the party music of North Africa!
