Mory Kante - Sabou

(Riverboat Records/World Music Network (2004))

This is a gem! A completely acoustic three course meal for the ears. No one can deny the position that Mory Kante holds in African music. As a member of the Rail Band in the 1970s, he worked alongside musicians like Salif Keita. He achieved international fame in 1988 with the release of 'Yeke Yeke', and since then has dappled in the world of electronic African music.

But what this album really signifies is the true heritage of Kante's music, and his passion for the Balafon and the kora. He is a griot, always has been, and will remain one of the greatest griot musicians of our age. If you think I am exaggerating just listen to 'Sabou' - a vital album for any record collection.
