Femi Kuti - The Best of Femi Kuti

(Wrasse Records 2004)

Femi Kuti The best of Femi Kuti

It is hard to live in the shadow of one of the greatest musicians of our time both in Nigeria and internationally, but I feel that Femi Kuti has done this with style and dignity throughout his won musical career. And this Best of album really does as it says on the tin - you know what I mean! Bringing some of the tracks from both 'Shoki Shoki' and 'Fight to Win', it delivers Femi Kuti's music at its best.

But more importantly for those who forget that Femi Kuti is a great saxophone player as well, it showcases some of his magical playing. You will also find collaborations with Mos Def (hip hop legend) and others on this album. I am not even sure if I should be sharing this one with you, it is too good! The importance of musicians like Femi Kuti must never be overlooked and just as Fela's mother's political thinking made an impression on him, so Femi has now picked up the torch from his father. This is one of the many new voices of Nigeria that need to be heard.
