Mahotella Queens - Reign & Shine

(Wrasse Records/ WRASS 177)

Mahotella Queens Reign and Shine

Mahotella Queens, the South African vocal group formed in 1964, have been consistent in their delivery of urban South African Music with a soulful gospel vibe.

The Queens are back after the success of their acclaimed album 'Bazobuya' (2004) with a brilliant new album, 'Reign and Shine'. They are digging deep into their roots, doing what they do best, but yet still venturing into new territory. The Queens' experimental approach has always broken down misconceptions of Mbaqanga, the dance music of the black townships of South Africa.

You can catch the Queens' energetic, unique lively show when they headline with Lady Blacksmith Mambazo at the Sage Gateshead on 22 May 2006.
