Julien Jacob - Cotonou
(Wrasse Records 2005)
A pleasantly laid-back set from this Benin born singer-songwriter, ideal for mellow summer evenings. Julien Jacob has a fine, deep and relaxed voice and mixes African influences with anything from Western pop balladry to reggae, and even Euro-pop, exposing his previous work with French rock bands. My utter favourite tracks are the ethereal 'Cotonou' and 'Maat', an unplugged roots lullaby and a bit of a grower.
