ZubopGambia 2003

(33JAZZ102)

Blank-CD

The London-based seven piece ‘world beat’ band ZubopGambia are led by Gambian master musician Juldeh Camara. Juldeh is one of the leading nyanyeru (one stringed African violin) players of West Africa, a fine singer and a prolific composer. ZubopGambia bring together the musical interests and influences of everyone involved - their repertoire includes not only traditional West African pieces, but elements of jazz, afro-funk, township music, pop, reggae, blues and then some! My favourite tracks include Fool’s Gold and Dawda Sane – an arrangement based on a traditional Mandinka tune.
